What is cross-docking and when should I use it?
Cross-docking transfers inbound freight directly to outbound vehicles with minimal or zero storage time. Use cross-docking when: you need to break down a full container into multi-stop truck deliveries, consolidate multiple inbound shipments into one outbound load, or transfer between transport modes (container to truck, international to domestic). RTSI's same-day cross-dock turnaround keeps freight moving.
Can RTSI strip and transload ocean containers?
Yes. We strip 20', 40', and 45' containers, sort and palletize contents, and transload onto trucks for final delivery. This is critical when your facility cannot receive containers on chassis or when you need multi-stop delivery from a single container. Transloading also lets us return the empty container to the carrier depot faster, reducing detention charges.
How does RTSI coordinate customs support for warehousing?
When freight needs customs clearance before release, RTSI coordinates shipping documents with the licensed customs broker partner while the shipment is in transit. By the time freight reaches the warehouse, the clearance workflow is already moving. That helps align customs status, warehouse timing, and empty return.
Does RTSI offer long-term warehouse storage?
RTSI's warehousing is optimized for freight-in-transit: cross-docking, container stripping, consolidation, and short-term holds (days to weeks). For ongoing inventory management, pick-and-pack, or eCommerce fulfillment, we can recommend dedicated 3PL partners. Our focus is moving freight efficiently, not storing it indefinitely.
Can RTSI store dangerous goods at the warehouse?
We can accommodate certain dangerous goods classes for short-term staging, subject to TDG and fire code requirements. Storage of DG requires proper segregation, labeling, and documentation. Contact us with your specific DG class and quantities for a feasibility assessment. Our team coordinates DG compliance through certified warehouse partners.
How does RTSI handle trade show freight storage?
RTSI receives exhibit materials and trade show freight in advance, stores it securely, and delivers to the venue on the required date.
